From the porcelain capital of the world
Jingdezhen, in Jiangxi province, has fired porcelain for over 1,700 years and supplied the imperial court for a millennium. The name “blue and white” (qinghua) refers to the cobalt blue pigment painted onto white clay before glazing — once fired, the pattern is sealed under the glaze and never wears off.
Hand-painted lotus
The lotus grows from mud and blooms clean above the water — in Chinese thought it stands for rising above difficulty with a pure heart. Each cup is painted by hand, so brush pressure and shade vary slightly from piece to piece.
